Mystery Explored: The Vikings: Voyage to America
Expedition Dates: June 3 - 23, 2005

Was Columbus the first to cross the Atlantic to discover America?  According to the Viking sagas, Eric the Red’s son Leif Erikson was the first European on the continent.  Using the sagas as my guide, I made a grueling 4,000 mile journey from Scandinavia to Iceland to Greenland and then to Newfoundland, on the edge of the New World, learning about the sea-faring, land-hungry Vikings and exploring the archaeological record.
