A lot of history originated with religion in the mid-east as a method of governing people. Nothing like the threat of a giant all powerful god saying “do this because I said so” to control the masses.
Anyway, many of these lands such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Kuwait, Afghantistan, are quite hostile to jews. That would make it very difficult for a jewish archaeologist.
What is more of a concern for you as a Jewish explorer, archaeologist, historian, etc. Going to Iran or Arkansas? Would it be riskier for you watch the pilgrims circle the Kaaba at the Masjid al-Haram, or watch the cars circle the track at a NASCAR race? If you got to a NASCAR race, I suggest you tell them your name is Joe Bob Stone instead of Josh BernStein.
